Tips for long term storage and caravanning

If you are planning to store your caravan for a long time or take it on a long trip, there are some things you should do to keep it in good condition and avoid problems.

- Clean your caravan thoroughly before storing it. Remove any dirt, dust, grease, or insects from the exterior and interior.

- Check for any signs of damage, rust, or leaks and fix them as soon as possible.

- For long-term storage, drain all the water from the pipes, tanks, and appliances. This will prevent, corrosion, or bacterial growth.

- Disconnect the battery and any electrical appliances. This will prevent draining the battery and avoid fire hazards. Store the battery in a cool, dry place and charge it periodically.

- Cover your caravan with a breathable cover that fits well and protects it from rain, sun, dust, and animals. Do not use plastic tarps or covers that trap moisture or heat.

- Check your caravan regularly while it is stored. Look for any signs of damage, dampness, mould, or pests. Ventilate the caravan occasionally to prevent condensation and musty smells.

- Service your caravan before taking it on a long trip. Check the tires, brakes, lights, suspension, and hitch. Lubricate the moving parts and replace any worn or damaged parts. Make sure everything is working properly and safely.

- Pack your caravan wisely for a long trip. Do not overload it or exceed the maximum weight limit. Distribute the weight evenly and secure the items properly. Leave some space for ventilation and movement.

- Plan your route and stops ahead of time. Choose roads that are suitable for caravanning and avoid narrow, steep, or rough roads. Find out where you can park, refuel, dump waste, and get water along the way. Book your campsites in advance if possible.

- Drive carefully and follow the road rules. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles and use your mirrors and indicators. Be aware of your caravan's size, weight, and speed and adjust accordingly. Be courteous to other drivers and let them overtake you if necessary.

- Enjoy your caravanning experience and have fun! Explore new places, meet new people, and make memories. Be respectful of the environment and the local community. Be prepared for any challenges or emergencies that may arise.
